Curriculum

Overview

The TTA’s series of courses is designed to establish skill sets for successfully finding gainful employment or to function as a ramp for continuing education. Employers are increasingly in need of people who are able to exhibit hands-on computer and IT skills. It is no longer sufficient simply to state on a resume or application that one has a solid working knowledge of computer hardware or software. More often than not, applicants will be required to specify and to demonstrate that knowledge.

Each course provides participants with a solid foundation of knowledge in addition to hands-on exercises and simulations to further enhance skills.

The schedule of classes is designed to accommodate duty and medical appointment needs of participants undergoing medical treatment.

Introductory courses include:

  • Networking, computer and software support
  • Small Office Home Office (SOHO) support
  • Microsoft Office skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Computer Essentials:

This course is designed to provide a solid, basic understanding for students at all levels of computer experience. Topics include the effective use, management and maintenance of computer workstations. Significant cost savings will be achieved with the ability to upgrade components, add memory, install and upgrade software.

Networking Essentials:

What isn't networked in the world today? The Internet has become pervasive in everyday life, and few really understand how it works. The demand for qualified Information Technology (IT) staff will continue to expand as high-speed Internet access becomes more prevalent and affordable. With this course, students will achieve a working knowledge of how the e-world works.

SOHO - Small Office/Home Office:

Almost every home and office has a computer network and a vast majority of these networks are not secure from intrusion and/or efficiently configured for maximum potential. This course teaches how and provides the ability to design and install a SOHO computer network.

Communication Skills using Microsoft Office (3 classes):

Whether serving as an administrative assistant or the CEO of a corporation, software skills are an absolute requirement for functionality in the marketplace.

The TTA teaches the skills necessary to search for employment on the Internet today, resume preparation, and basic office software functionality. Surveys show many job applicants state they have the requisite skills for a position, yet, when tested on the minimums, the failure rate is extremely high.

Part of the TTA’s mission is to change this statistic for wounded warriors.

This series of courses reinforces existing lls and provides participants with the opportunity to go beyond the basics thereby demonstrating to potential employers a commitment to continuing education.

In addition to dedicated courses, other continuous learning opportunities abound:

  • Web-based exercises and online training
  • 6-month enrollment in Aries Institute of Technology
  • Students are eligible to receive assistance with enrollment in certification and other IT training programs.
  • Additional training is provided in order to improve job search and resume writing skills as well as to increase the scope of career planning efforts.
